About RemSoc
RemSoc was established by a group of professionals and practitioners, all working in the remediation sector.
The group inlcudes consultants and contractors who have a broad knowledge and significant experience of the industry, the market and clients that we are serving.
RemSoc is independent of other professional organisations, bodies and industry groups but aims to collaborate with other like-minded groups.
Membership is open to all those directly involved in remediation activities and who share our values to establish a well-balanced and non-biased society.

To promote good practice in remediation….. in essence….. to do remediation right…..
Why the Need for RemSoc?
To promote the safe and technically sound implementation of remediation techniques and technologies and provide a knowledge sharing platform amongst professionals and practitioners with a focus on the development of early career professionals.
Meet the Steering Committee
Steve Edgar (Chair)
Steve is the Managing Director of VertaseFLI, designing and delivering everything from small in-situ projects through to large multi-technology remediation and regeneration projects and landfill remediation. Steve is a founding member of RemSoc.
Neil Hopkins (Secretary)
Neil works at Biogenie Remediation UK Limited and has experience in the brownfield sector, predominantly focusing on designing and implementing a wide range of remediation schemes.
Neil has been a member of the RemSoc Steering Committee since November 2021 and was voted in as Secretary in 2023.
Neil is based in Cardiff.
Bec Weller (ECP Coordinator)
Bec is the People & Culture Director at VertaseFLI, with experience in the industry. Bec is responsible for all things people and culture and is particularly focused on development and coaching/ mentoring, having brought a coaching/ mentoring programme to VertaseFLI.
Bec joined the Steering Committee in 2023 and as ECP Co-ordinator, Bec will be looking at how RemSoc can help develop and progress our Early Careers Practitioners in the industry.
Jo McKay (Comms)
Jo is a Managing Consultant in Ramboll’s Site Solutions team and has experience as a contaminated land consultant. Jo has been involved with a range of remediation projects for the industry, property and transport sectors and a focus on sustainable remediation.
Jo has been a member of the RemSoc Steering Committee since 2023.
Tom Simpson (Treasurer)
Tom works for WSP, in the site closure and remediation sectors in the both the UK and Europe, predominantly as a remediation contractor. Tom has a strong understanding of contaminated land / remedial techniques and associated compliance and permitting issues.
Tom has been on the RemSoc Steering Committee since 2019 and was voted in as Treasurer in 2023.
Tom is based in Kent.
Sarah Harris (ECP Coordinator)
Sarah is a Lead Specialist Advisor in Hydrogeology at Natural Resources Wales and has experience in the field of Remediation Engineering, Environmental Consultancy, Environmental Risk Assessment and Environmental Regulation working on a variety of complex contaminated land and groundwater projects across the UK. Sarah has been a member of the RemSoc steering committee since 2016 and has co-ordinated and led to Early Careers Practitioner sub-group since 2017 which she is looking forward to continuing alongside Bec.
Will Thomas
Will is a Geoenvironmental Engineer at The Environmental Protection Group Ltd and has eight years’ experience in the contaminated land sector. His work includes managing projects and undertaking bespoke monitoring as part of more complex sites. Many of these projects require assessment of different areas of risk, such as ground gas, vapour intrusion, groundwater quality, and soil contamination. He is keen to support early career professionals and highlight the importance of site-specific context for successful risk mitigation. Will has been a member of the RemSoc committee since 2025.
Lucy Hamilton
Lucy is Technical Director at Provectus Remediation and has experience in contaminated land. Her work includes site assessments, the design and implementation of remediation schemes, environmental permitting applications, and ensuring compliance with waste regulations.
Lucy is a big supporter of early career professionals and really enjoys mentoring, sharing experiences, and helping others build confidence and grow their careers.
Lucy has been a member of RemSoc since 2021 and part of the RemSoc committee since 2025.
Richard Bresgi
Richard is a Project Manager at Cognition Land and Water with experience in managing large-scale bulk earthworks, ground engineering and civil infrastructure projects across multiple countries. Richard moved into the remediation sector upon joining Cognition, where he has been working on projects including the Kings Road Park development.
Richard joined the RemSoc Steering Committee in 2025 and is based in London.
James Cartwright
James (Jim to his friends) has worked on contaminated sites in the UK and overseas. Having worked for US, Germany, and UK Consultants/Contractors he has a broad experience of remediation and over the last 25 years his focus has been purely on remediation. Key projects include;
- the In-situ soil vapour extraction on the O2 site,
- bioremediation of 500,000t of soil on a former refinery,
- ex-situ thermal treatment of gas works and
- landfill remediation.
Nick Gregory
Nick is a Remediation Project Manager at e3p with consulting experience in contaminated land assessment and remediation. He has expertise in the assessment, design, and implementation of remediation strategies across a diverse range of contaminated sites.
Lizzie Beers
Lizzie is Service Lead at WSP and has many years experience in environmental consultancy, comprising the majority of aspects relating to land contamination and remediation. Lizzie has been a member of RemSoc and the Steering Committee since 2018.
